What is Ayurveda?

Becoming your own healer with the aid of the practitioner.

Thousands of years before modern medicine provided scientific evidence for the mind-body connection, the sages of India developed Ayurveda, which continues to be one of the world’s most sophisticated and powerful mind-body health systems. More than a mere system of treating illness, Ayurveda is a science of life (Ayur = life, Veda = science or knowledge). It offers a body of wisdom designed to help people stay vibrant and healthy while realizing their full human potential. Ayurveda is the form of holistic healing from India.  According to Ayurveda, each person is born with a particular constitutional type (Prakruti) and over time develops imbalance (Vikruti).  Ayurveda helps the patient to understand the nature of the Vikruti and prescribes foods, herbs, and lifestyle practices to restore the natural Prakruti.  Prakruti and Vikruti are described in terms of 3 biological energies (doshas): Vata, Pitta, and Kapha.  The 3 doshas exist as qualities in nature, and the practices of Ayurveda teach the patient to live in harmony with the cycles of nature to experience increased health, peace of mind, and happiness.

Ayurvedic Consultation

Assessment of constitutional type and treatment plan to best suit the patient's needs. Treatment often involves a recommendation of an herbal regimen and daily practices

$200.00 (120 min)

Abhyanga: Ayurvedic Oil Therapy/Bodywork

90 Minute Therapy $135

With 30 Minute Herbal Steam: $175

Abhyanga is a deeply nourishing treatment that includes a heavy application of oil to the body. The oil is applied with gentle strokes that are designed to create balance in the Nadis (energy channels) and Marma Points (Ayurvedic energy points) while encouraging the client to enter into an enhanced state of relaxation. This ancient therapy is reported to have many benefits, including:

  • Increased circulation to the extremities

  • Increased muscle tone and flexibility

  • Lubrication of the joints

  • Softening of skin tissue

  • Flushing of toxins from the body through lymph movement

  • Encouraging deep, rehabilitative sleep

  • Increased stamina throughout the day

  • Mental alertness

  • Enhanced youthful appearance

  • Stress Reduction

When you come to receive your Abhyanga, you will enter into a warm and soothing environment, scented with calming essential oils and quiet music. The oil is kept warm throughout the therapy, and approximately 4-8 oz of oil are used on each client. As your therapist, Amanda holds you in a gentle, loving, and safe space so that you can enter into a healing relaxed state of mind. Sanskrit chanting is used to open the therapy and acknowledge the traditional roots of Ayurveda. Pranic healing is used throughout the therapy to encourage energetic balance.

The therapy begins with the client sitting up as herbal oil with essential oils are used to open the Marma points on the head to promote awakened consciousness. Medicated herbal oil is applied with loving strokes to the head, the face, the arms, and the back. Throughout the bodywork session, the practitioner holds the client with nurturing and healing intention. Circular strokes alternate with long soothing strokes to clear and calm energy while moving the lymph.

The client will then lay down on their left side where oil is applied to the right arm, the back, and the right leg. The client turns face down for oil application to the back side of the body. Energy work is used over the major Marma points in the body, and some deeper strokes assist in relieving tension in the back and neck. Turning onto the right side of the body, the practitioner will apply oil to the left arm, the back, and the left leg. The therapy ends with the client face up, and oil is applied to the face, neck, abdomen, arms, and legs.

After the application of oil, hot moist towels with essential oils are used to remove excessive oil and to open the pores of the skin to allow the absorption of oil so the skin is left moisturized, soft, and glowing. Try adding the optional herbal steam instead of hot towels to more deeply open your pores and encourage gentle sweating/detoxification. See additional description for herbal steam.

Svedana: Ayurvedic Full-Body Herbal Steam

30 Minute Therapy: $40

This therapy is recommended to follow an Abhyanga or the Vata/Pitta Balancing Marma Therapy, and is not offered as a stand-alone treatment. While resting on the massage table after your therapy, a steam tent is lowered over the client, encasing the body except for the head and neck. Warm steam fills the tent with herbs to promote skin health, opening of the respiratory system, encourage relaxation, and increase sweating. Herbs used in the steam include Bay Leaf, Calamus, Cedar, Eucalyptus, Jasmine, Lavender, Lemongrass, Orris Root, Rose, Spearmint, and Spikenard. A cool cloth scented with rosewater is placed over the center of the chest, forehead, and eyes for cooling of the mind and heart. After the steam, you will feel refreshed and luxurious. The herbal oil on the body from your previous therapy will leave your skin feeling soft and youthful.

Nasya: Ayurvedic Sinus Therapy

75 Minute Therapy: $115

Common indications for Nasya Therapy include sinus infections, headaches, insomnia, neck pain/tension, and TMJ. However, Nasya is indicated for all imbalances experienced in the neck and head. Nasya Therapy increases the absorption of prana, life-force energy, which is carried through the breath.

Nasya begins with the client seated while oil is applied to the head, face, upper back, and neck to open the sinuses and promote relaxation. Therapeutic strokes are used to open the Nadis (Ayurvedic energy channels), restoring balance to the nervous system.

The application of oil is followed by a warm herbal steam which benefits the health of the skin and continues opening the respiratory system. Herbs used in the steam include Bay Leaf, Calamus, Cedar, Eucalyptus, Jasmine, Lavender, Lemongrass, Orris Root, Rose, Spearmint, and Spikenard.

After the steam, the client reclines on a massage table and the head is tilted back while being supported. Herbal oils are slowly and gently dropped into the nostrils and drawn deeply into the sinuses followed by hot towels over the face to encourage absorption. The head is returned to a flat position, and pranic energy is directed into the Marma Points (Ayurvedic energy points) of the head and face while the client goes into a state of meditation.

Your Nasya therapy will leave you in a blissful state with a balanced mind.

Anahata (Heart) Chakra Lepa Therapy

75 Minute Therapy: $115

Heart Chakra Lepa Therapy supports strength of the physical heart, peace in the emotional heart, and relaxation of the muscular tissue associated with the heart chakra in the upper back and shoulders.

Experience peace within as we release old sadness, disappointment, and grief from the heart and bring in positive states of love and trust. Release the burden of tension that you are carrying in your upper back and shoulders as the Marma points (Ayurvedic energy points) are cleared.

This therapy begins with an application of warm herbal oil over the upper back and shoulders, releasing tension in the muscles and clearing stuck energy in the Marma points with Pranic Healing. Deeper strokes are blended with gentle and soothing strokes to release muscular tension painlessly.

After the oil application, an herbal paste is applied to the upper back. The herbal paste is designed to specifically support emotional and physical balance in the heart chakra. Herbs used in the paste include Arjuna, Ashoka, Ashwaganda, Calamus, Frankincense, and Hawthorn Berry. The herbs are cooked into Sesame oil to release their positive properties and mixed with a Udad Dal flour to make a paste that relaxes muscles and encourages the release of negative emotions while creating emotional strength.

Warm steam infused with Rose petals will be directed over the herbal paste as the patient rests in meditation while receiving Reiki (universal love energy). The steam encourages the beneficial properties of the herbal paste to penetrate even more deeply into the body. Reiki fills the body with a renewed sense of light and love. Your heart will feel soothed and an increased sense of emotional lightness will arise upon completion of this therapy.

Deepen your experience with a Heart Chakra Basti (Dough Dam) to balance the front side of the heart chakra.

Anahata (Heart) Chakra Basti (Dough Dam)

60 Minute Therapy: $95

The Heart Chakra Basti is a traditional Ayurvedic therapy used to clear negativity from the emotional heart, strengthen the physical heart, and open the spiritual heart to unconditional love.

A circular dam (donut shaped) made of Urad Dal flour mixed with water is placed over the center of the chest, in the area of the sternum. Warm oil with an herbal infusion of Rose, Arjuna, Ashoka, Hawthorne, Cinnamon, and Cardamom along with essential oils is poured into the dam over the heart. Reiki (universal love) healing energy is directed into the heart chakra while you deeply relax and feel the expansive love within your true heart. Throughout the therapy, the practitioner will remove oil that has cooled and refill the dam with warm oil to maintain a consistent soothing experience. Use this therapy to connect to your spiritual heart and experience bliss within.

Combine with the Heart Chakra Lepa Therapy to balance both sides of the heart chakra.

A 30 Minute version of this therapy may be added on to a Heart Chakra Lepa Therapy, Abhyanga, Vata Balancing Marma Therapy, or Pitta Balancing Marma Therapy for $55

Netra Tarpana (Ayurvedic Eye Treatment)

60 Minute Therapy: $95

Netra Tarpana is a traditional Ayurvedic therapy to nourish and strengthen the eyes. Netra Tarpana is often recommended for conditions such as dry eyes, eye allergy, glaucoma, watery eyes, conjunctivitis, eye strain, and other various types of eye weakness or inflammation.

A circular dam (donut shaped) made of Urad Dal flour mixed with water is placed around the eyes. Ghee that has been gently warmed to body temperature is poured into the dam around the eyes. The muscles around the eyes relax and soften and the patient is encouraged to open and close the eyes several times, looking through the golden lens of ghee and allowing it to penetrate the tissues of the eye. Ghee is made from organic butter that has been cooked until the milk solids separate, then are strained. In Ayurvedic medicine, Ghee is considered an extremely healing substance of benefit to the eyes.

After the Ghee has been allowed to penetrate the eyes, it is drained out of the dough dam which is then removed from the patient's eyes. Warm moist towels are used over the face to simultaneously allow the skin to absorb ghee and remove any excess. The ghee is removed from the eyes by wafting turmeric and sage smoke towards the eyes while the patient blinks. This encourages the eyes to secrete a small amount of tears and clears the vision. After the herbal smoking is complete, rosewater eye drops are introduced to cool and balance the eyes.

Rest and hydration are strongly recommended after this therapy.

Katti Basti (Low Back Dough Dam)

60 Minute Therapy: $95

Katti Basti is a traditional Ayurvedic therapy used to alleviate lower back pain and strengthen the Svadisthana (sacral) Chakra. The Svadisthana Chakra is physically contained in the pelvic bowl and relates to the lower back and reproductive system. Emotionally, when the Svadisthana Chakra is balanced, we develop a loving relationship to ourselves and are able to flow easily in our relationships with others. The Svadisthana Chakra also relates to fertility and creative expression.

A circular dam (donut shaped) made of Urad Dal flour mixed with water is placed over the low back, including the sacrum. Warm oil with an herbal infusion of Rose, Arjuna, Ashoka, Hawthorne, Cinnamon, and Cardamom along with essential oils is poured into the dam over the heart. Reiki (universal love) healing energy is directed into the Svadisthana chakra helping to clear negativity from past relationships and increase your sense of inner peace. Throughout the therapy, the practitioner will remove oil that has cooled and refill the dam with warm oil to maintain a consistent soothing experience. Use this therapy to feel supported as you move forward in all of your relationships.

Combine with the Heart Chakra Lepa Therapy to release relationships from the past and open your heart to new love.

A 30 Minute version of this therapy may be added on to a Heart Chakra Lepa Therapy, Abhyanga, Vata Balancing Marma Therapy, or Pitta Balancing Marma Therapy for $55
